Welcome to Alrewas Parish Council
As we enter our third year as a separate Parish we thank outgoing Chairman David Butcher for all his hard work and welcome John Pegg as the new Chair and Donna Moss as Vice Chair.
We were pleased to see the completion of the refurbished shops frontage earlier in the year after a long time waiting. It is hoped that planters will eventually be placed on the corner once work on the pavements is complete to prevent vehicles parking there illegally.
We also see at last work starting on the pavements down Main Street which are to be repaired and renovated using the existing kerbstones in keeping with the character of the village. Once this is completed it is hoped residents will be more conscientious about not parking on the pavements which has caused so much damage in the past and continues to be a major safety hazard. The Parish Council have worked hard negotiating with County Highways to make improvements to the roads and pavements in the village and 24,000 metre square of new pavement surfacing has now been completed.
A new drain has also been fitted at the end of Micklehome Drive by the A38 which should alleviate the flooding and drainage problems in that area.
Campaigning against gravel extraction on the edge of the village has proved successful but the Parish Council recognise that it is not over yet and will continue to monitor developments.
Each year the Parish Council support groups in the village with small grants which this year include £1000 to the Cricket Club towards relaying the cricket square, £150 to the Befrienders scheme and a contribution towards the village fireworks event.
KEY ISSUES BEING ADDRESSED
Play Area
Immediate improvements include the repair of the perimeter fence, a new small gate that will be self closing and replacement of the seating on the Cross Scales. A firmer surface under the big swings is also being looked at. The large gate has been locked with a padlock which can be opened by LDC as necessary for maintenance works. A long term strategy is being drawn up to lay new safety surfacing under the equipment (the toddler area as a priority) and replace older equipment as money becomes available.
Allotments
A site in the village has been earmarked but the legal process is taking much longer than expected.
Trees
The dead tree outside the Alrewas Fryer will be replaced in September when growing conditions are more suitable. The two trees on the pavement near 142 Main Street will also be replaced.
Statfold Lane
The Parish Council appreciate the closure of this footpath is a real concern to residents and continue to work towards ways of resolving it.
High Speed Rail Link
Whilst this may seem to not directly affect Alrewas there may be some noise impact and the Parish Council urge residents to register their views by 29th July.
